Вопрос о законности включения IE в обязательную поставку Windows в конце прошлого года подняла норвежская компания , которая считает, что «Майкрософт» тем самым нарушает антимонопольные правила и препятствует развитию нормальной рыночной конкуренции. В «Майкрософт» отмечают, что Windows 7 для европейского рынка изначально не будет содержать никаких браузеров. Пользователи и поставщики компьютеров смогут инсталлировать любой веб-обозреватель по своему усмотрению, в том числе и Internet Explorer.
Конкуренты, впрочем, считают, что «Майкрософт» следует реализовать возможность установки альтернативных браузеров: в этом случае при первом включении компьютера пользователя должно быть предложено инсталлировать нужные веб-обозреватели и выбрать один из них в качестве программы по умолчанию.
